Plumber Costs in Tampa, FL: What Homeowners Actually Pay

Most plumbing cost guides on the internet are built from national surveys and contractor polls — numbers averaged across the whole country, then rounded into something that sounds authoritative. Tampa homeowners don't hire "the national average." You hire a local company, on a local street, with local soil, local cast-iron pipes, and a local price.

So we built this guide differently. Every range below comes from paid invoices for jobs Sewer Studs Plumbing & Drain has actually completed for Tampa Bay homeowners — with the ranges drawn from the last 24 months and the job counts covering every job we've done. These aren't estimates of what plumbing should cost. They're what it did cost, on real jobs, in real Tampa homes.

A few things to know before the numbers:

  • Service call: $99 flat. That's what it costs to get a licensed plumber to your door for a diagnostic visit. Hire us to do the work that same day and we waive the $99 entirely. (If you have us out for a diagnosis and decide to hire us later, the $99 isn't credited at that point — the waiver is for same-day work.)
  • Estimates are free. For planned work, we'll evaluate the job and give you a firm quote at no charge.
  • Sewer camera inspection: $500 flat — and $250 of that fee (50%) is credited toward your repair if you hire us to do the work.

Sewer Camera Inspection — $500 Flat

A camera inspection is how a guessing game becomes a diagnosis. We run a high-resolution camera through your sewer line, see exactly what's happening — cracks, root intrusion, collapsed cast iron, bellied pipe — and show you the footage.

Our sewer camera inspection is a flat $500, and $250 of the fee (50%) is credited toward your repair if you have us do the work. It's the cheapest money in plumbing: it keeps you from paying to fix the wrong problem.

The Pinellas County Rebate — Why Our Rebate Inspection Costs $850

Pinellas County offers homeowners a Private Sewer Lateral rebate — up to $350 toward a camera inspection of your sewer line and up to $3,500 toward a repair, while the county's funds last. It's real money, and if your home is in Pinellas, you should know it exists.

Now our side of it. Our camera inspection is $500, flat. A Pinellas County rebate camera inspection is $850. Same camera, same line, same report — the extra $350 is the office time it takes to do the job up to the county's paperwork standard, and the county rebates you that same $350 back. We tried their way once: the forms for a $350 rebate took longer than the inspection they were rebating, and we refunded the customer his fee rather than do it again.

So there is a discount on this page, and it's an honest one: if we don't have to do the paperwork, you don't pay for the paperwork. Book the regular $500 inspection, take the footage, the recorded video, and the written report that come with every inspection we do, and file with the county yourself. That's everything the county asks for — and none of your $350 gets spent on forms.

Drain Clearing — $250 to $650

Most drain clearings land between $250 and $650. (Range from the last two years; 383 drain clearings completed in total.) The typical job runs about $425.

Where a job lands in that range depends mostly on what we're clearing and what we find. A straightforward clog that clears with the cable sits at the low end. A main line packed with years of grease, soap, and hair buildup takes longer. And when a "clog" keeps coming back, that's often a sign of a deeper problem in the sewer line itself — scale and corrosion narrowing the pipe, or damage further down the line — which is a different conversation than a simple clearing.

Hydro-Jetting and Descaling — $1,016 to $5,175

When a cable isn't enough, hydro-jetting scours the inside of the pipe with high-pressure water, stripping out the grease and buildup a cable leaves behind. For Tampa's older cast-iron lines, descaling grinds away the rust and mineral scale that narrows the pipe from the inside.

Most hydro-jetting-only jobs land between $1,016 and $3,880, and most combined hydro-jetting and descaling jobs land between $2,146 and $5,175. (Ranges from the last two years; 53 hydro-jetting and 55 combo jobs completed in total.)

The driver is the condition of the line. A maintenance jetting on a healthy pipe is one job; a cast-iron line that's never been descaled, with decades of scale to remove before the jetting can do its work, is another. Before we recommend jetting, we often run a camera inspection first to confirm the pipe can handle the pressure — if the line is severely damaged, repair or lining may be the smarter money.

Trenchless Pipe Lining — $950 to $16,000

Trenchless lining renews a failing sewer line from the inside — no trench across your yard, no tearing up your slab, floors, or driveway. What it costs depends heavily on which kind of lining job your pipe needs:

Spot and sectional repairs: most land between $950 and $4,238 — based on 12 jobs we've actually done. When only a short section of pipe is damaged, we line just that section. Small spot liners sit at the low end; longer sectional liners run higher.

Full liners: most land between $3,860 and $16,000, (range from the last two years; 120 full liners completed in total), with the typical full liner around $9,500. For a full liner, the biggest drivers are the length of the run and the diameter of the pipe — a short line under a yard costs far less than a long run under a slab.

Compare that honestly against digging: an excavation job's schedule is set by the dig and the restoration, job by job, and the dig price rarely includes putting back your concrete, flooring, landscaping, drywall, and paint. A lining is usually the faster job — a spot or sectional repair is often a single day, sometimes two or three, and most full liners are booked over about 3 days. Our Gold Package pipe lining also carries a 10-year parts and labor guarantee.

Sewer Repair and Replacement — $1,127 to $12,128

Most sewer repairs land between $1,127 and $7,500. (Range from the last two years; 34 repairs completed in total.) That range includes partial replacements, because in the real world a "repair" often means replacing the damaged section of line rather than the whole run. The typical repair runs about $2,500.

Most full sewer line replacements land between $3,656 and $12,128, (range from the last two years; 51 replacements completed in total), with the typical replacement around $6,438. A full replacement means a new line from the house to the street, and the price moves with the length of that run, the depth of the line, and the piping material.

This is the single most misquoted job in Tampa plumbing, which is exactly why we start with a camera inspection: the footage tells us — and shows you — whether you need a $2,500 repair or a full replacement, before anyone quotes you either one.

Water Heater Repair — $307 to $1,237

Most water heater repairs land between $307 and $1,237 — based on 14 jobs we've actually done.

A note on how we counted: routine maintenance flushes are not in this range. Plenty of cost guides quietly fold cheap flushes into their "repair" numbers to make the range look lower. This range is repairs only, so it reflects what an actual broken water heater costs to fix.

→ Water heater repair service

Water Heater Replacement — $750 to $3,290

Replacement splits into two very different jobs depending on who's supplying the heater:

If we supply the water heater: most replacements land between $1,848 and $3,290, (range from the last two years; 137 replacements completed in total), with the typical job around $2,275. That price includes the unit itself, and it moves with tank size and fuel type — gas heaters tend to run higher than electric.

If you supply the water heater: most installations land between $750 and $1,250. (Range from the last two years; 10 completed in total.) That's labor and installation only — you buy the unit, we install it properly, to code, and haul the old one out of the equation.

→ Water heater installation service

Whole-Home Repipes — $4,500 and Up

Most whole-home repipes land between $4,500 and $12,025 — based on 98 jobs we've actually done. Larger and multi-bath homes run $15,000–$22,000+.

The number of bathrooms is the single biggest driver — a two-bath home and a four-bath home are simply different amounts of pipe, fittings, and wall access. Two-story homes and homes where the lines run through the slab add scope as well. We've completed repipes at $18,765 and $21,750 for larger multi-bath homes, which is why we'd rather show you the honest two-tier picture than one tidy range that pretends a four-bath house costs what a two-bath house costs.

→ Water repipes service

Water Softeners and Filtration — $1,936 to $4,169

Most water softener and filtration installations land between $1,936 and $4,169, (range from the last two years; 43 installs completed in total), with the typical system around $3,569.

This range is installations only — the cost of the system itself, installed. Where you land depends on the equipment you choose, from straightforward softening to premium whole-home conditioning and filtration. Repairs and service calls on existing systems aren't in these numbers, because that's not what you're shopping for when you search for the cost of a system.

How We Quote

We don't do flat-rate guessing, and we don't do coupon games. Here's how pricing actually works at Sewer Studs:

  1. We look first. For sewer and drain work, that usually means the $500 camera inspection — with $250 of the fee credited toward your repair. For planned projects, estimates are free.
  2. You get a firm quote. After an onsite evaluation, we quote the job at a set price. The number we give you is the number you pay — not a "starting at" figure that grows once the pipe is open.
  3. You decide with the full picture. We'll show you what we found, explain the options — including the cheaper repair when a repair will honestly hold — and let you choose. Our pricing aims for the middle of the road on purpose: higher quality than the cheapest truck in town, more fairly priced than the big corporate outfits.
  4. Larger projects can be financed. We offer financing through Acorn, and checking your options starts with a soft credit pull, so finding out your rate and terms won't ding your credit.

We work Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. We're a small family crew, and we're upfront about that: we don't do nights, weekends, or after-hours service, because we'd rather tell you the truth than promise round-the-clock coverage we can't deliver.
